Status: Full- Time
Position Summary: Provides indirect care in the department setting. Monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac screen or telemetry monitors. Meets communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders from records with notation and signatures by nursing staff. Prepares and compiles records in the department. Maintains regulatory body requirements, policies, and procedures and participates in performance improvement activities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac screen or telemetry monitors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Follows infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
- Is aware of patient condition and whereabouts when patient is out of the unit.
- Communicates information about dysrhythmias to the charge nurse and primary care
nurse.
- Demonstrates competency in interpreting dysrhythmias.
- Transcribes orders within one hour when feasible.
- Enters orders correctly into the computer.
- Maintains current copies of lab results and x-rays and makes them available to staff.
- Orders supplies and stocks as required.
- Maintains accuracy of the patient’s medical record to ensure complete and accurate
patient care.
- Alerts nursing staff to abnormal lab test results.
- Maintains logbooks in the department.
- Runs and posts rhythm strips at the specified times.
- Assists other staff members as needed with transferring and transporting of patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of computer system.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Professional Requirements:
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes in services and returns in a timely fashion.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Regulatory Requirements:
- High School diploma or the equivalent.
- Monitor technician certificate (includes successful completion of EKG Interpretation course).
