Imaging Services Manager

Position Title:  Imaging Services Manager                                

Status: Full- Time

Position Summary:   Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the Imaging Services Department. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from newborn to elderly. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Ensures competency of all staff. Assists in formulating the budget. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all accrediting organization, state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with facility administration on planning, organizing, and directing Imaging Services

operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Makes daily rounds in the Imaging Services Department to judge effectiveness of

operation, utilization of staff and supplies, and general ethical and professional

atmosphere.

  • Ensures the availability to nursing staff for patients in the Imaging Services Department.
  • Carries on continuous analysis, evaluation, and audit of Imaging Services Department.
  • Initiates and actuates improved methods of Imaging Services and directs their

implementation.

  • Assists with the preparation for the department budget for staff, operating expenses, and

develops and directs quality assurance programs relating to calibration and maintenance

of equipment.

  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administration.
  • Delegates authority and responsibility to the Imaging Services staff.
  • Ensures radiation safety standards are followed for the safety of patients and staff.
  • Participates in the human resource management function for the department by

coordinating the selection, promotion, orientation, and performance appraisal processes.

  • Coordinates the department’s in service training.
  • Promotes effective intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Initiates, interprets, and enforces Imaging Services procedures and maintains and

interprets facility policies and procedures.

  • Is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance
  • improvement and CQI activities.
  • Ensures that there is adequate storage for supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains standards of professional society procedures and ethical behavior.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric,
  • and general population.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Professional Requirements:

  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations, and

accrediting organization standards.

  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with
  • physicians, departments, and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attends committee, CQI, and management meetings, as appropriate.
  • Resolves staff concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as
  • required.
  • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to staff and encourages

interactive departmental meetings and discussions.

  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement

of the department.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • High School graduate; BS degree preferred.
  • Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Certified by the State of West Virginia to practice and administer radiation.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Administrative/Supervisory experience preferred.
  • At least five (5) active years in a department with diagnostic and special procedures experience.
  • Current membership and active participation in the Radiologic Technologist professional organization.
