Materials Management Director

Job Title:  Materials Management Director

Status: Full-Time                                                                                             

Job Summary:  Responsible for the coordination of the materials management system throughout the hospital with regards to procurement, processing and distribution of materials and services.  This system shall meet or exceed the requirements of the hospital and be accomplished in an efficient, cost-effective manner.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for areas of procurement, inventory control, receiving and storage, distribution, duplicating and mail transport throughout the hospital.
  • Provides administrative support to the Chief Financial Officer in the form of reports, budgets, supply utilization analysis and capital expenditure management.
  • Reviews, evaluates and approves all purchase orders.
  • Reviews, evaluates and approves all requests for non-stock purchases prior to procurement.
  • Maintains good interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships by providing the highest level of services, management assistance and open communication.
  • Interfaces directly with all departments in the hospital with regards to materials that have been requested to ascertain specifications and need.
  • Maintains adequate supply levels throughout the hospital, utilizing the computerized inventory control system.
  • Reviews all PAR level utilization.
  • Reviews records and reports covering number and kinds of regular and therapeutic diets prepared, nutritional and caloric analysis of meals, costs of raw food and labor, computations of daily ration cost and inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • Completes annual education requirements.

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.
  • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to staff and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on business administration, economics or a related field.  Master’s degree preferred. Experience may be accepted in lieu of a college degree.
  • At least five (5) years of experience as Materials Management Director in the healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of accrediting organization and state regulations for hospital facility.
