Position Title: Nursing House Supervisor
Status: Full-Time
Position Summary: The Nursing House Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective management of the activities of the total patient care services during his/her assigned shift. In the absence of the Administrator and/or designee, the Nursing House Supervisor has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions and appropriate notification of the Administrator-On-Call.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for carrying out hospital/nursing policies, procedures and standards.
- Responsible for visiting all patient care units to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs and provide support to caregivers.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Administers the effective distribution and utilization of staff employed during the respective shift.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Keeps the Nurse Executive, his/her representative and/or the Administrator informed regarding circumstances or situations which have or may have serious impact.
- Assumes the duties as outlined in the Emergency Management Manual.
- Evaluates accuracy of staffing systems.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Professional Requirements:
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards related to the Medical Surgical Unit and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Wears identification while on duty.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.
- Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to staff and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Supervision experience preferred.
- Current West Virginia Registered Nurse Licensure, or current multi-state licensure within state of practice.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
