Position: Pharmacy Technician
Location: 182 E 2nd Ave, Williamson, WV 25661 Reports To: Pharmacist in Charge
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician supports the Pharmacist in Charge in maintaining efficient pharmacy operations, ensuring exceptional patient service, and upholding strict compliance with all state and federal regulations. This role requires adherence to all rules governing pharmacy technicians as defined by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
Essential Responsibilities
Pharmacy Operations & Systems
· Utilize the pharmacy computer system, including processing refills, reviewing patient profiles, managing workflow, inventory functions, and generating refill reports.
· Maintain accurate and secure filing of prescription hard copies.
· Demonstrate proper use, cleaning, and maintenance of pill counting machines.
· Understand and apply the pharmacy’s “Promise Time” workflow process.
· Restock medication vials and pharmacy supplies as part of daily operations.
· Assist with medication sign-out procedures.
Customer Service & Communication
· Perform register transactions accurately, including cash, check, charge accounts, and account balance inquiries.
· Efficiently use the pharmacy’s phone system and office equipment.
· Assist patients with auto-refill systems and online refill requests.
· Gather appropriate information to properly complete patient intake forms.
Knowledge & Compliance
· Maintain strong understanding of HIPAA guidelines and uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
· Demonstrate basic knowledge of commonly used medical abbreviations.
· Understand brand vs. generic medications and available DME products.
· Follow all regulatory guidelines relevant to pharmacy technician responsibilities.
Other Duties
· Complete tasks and projects as assigned by pharmacy leadership or management.
Qualifications
Required:
· High school diploma or GED
· Ability to complete an approved Pharmacy Technician training program
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
· Excellent communication and customer service skills
· Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and regulatory compliance
Preferred:
· Previous retail or clinical pharmacy experience
· Experience handling medical or insurance-related documentation
Work Schedule
· Full-time position
· Schedule may include some evenings or weekends as needed
